Oxygen generation in Finland in the eyes of the law
In the beginning of 2013 Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea approved the 93 ± 3 % medical oxygen to be used in the health care units. The decision enables a more cost effective, safer, and more reliable production technology for medical oxygen. In the history of healthcare there has never been such a remarkable improvement to the better with any other medical gas product.
When manufacturing medical oxygen, just like with any other medical substance, the Medicines Act must be obeyed as well as meet the requirements of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea supervises medicine manufacturing in Finland. An official will check and approve all the medicinal production and quality control methods, thus giving the production equipment an official permit for use. The equipment can’t be used in medicinal manufacturing before obtaining the permit.
